Liberal party president Alfred Apps says he’s willing to take the blame for everything that has gone wrong with the party since 2004 but won’t step down despite mounting calls for his resignation from Liberals across the country.

“I wasn’t (there in 2004), but if that’s what people want to hear, if they want me to take the rap for everything then I am happy to do it because it is not constructive, we need to move on,” he told Postmedia News Tuesday.

Mr. Apps said he was not going to seek an extension of his presidency when the party meets next for its biennial convention, which is being pushed back to possibly January.

“When my term expires at the next biennial convention, I will step down, but at the moment I have the support of the national board, I’ve got the support of all provincial and territorial associations across Canada and I believe that we are conducting ourselves in difficult, difficut circumstances in the only way possible in the interest of our party.”
