EU, NATO, neighbourly ties - Macedonia's top priorities, says President Ivanov

The Republic of Macedonia remains consistent to its permanent and top goals and priorities complying with the basic principle of openness and closeness with everyone, said President Gjorge Ivanov at a plenary session of the Summit of Heads of State and Government of the South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP) participating countries, taking place in Sveti Stefan, Montenegro.

 

"Our goals are clear - Macedonia to be full-fledged member of NATO and the European Union, a country that nourishes excellent relations with all of its neighbours, engaged in all regional initiatives, open to the world, to the international community, to all," Ivanov stated noting that results weren't lacking.

The early parliamentary polls held this month, he added, have shown that the majority of citizens back those goals and priorities, which is an obligation for the newly-elected state organs. The Macedonian President said that Sveti Stefan was the place where a clear message was being sent on the commitment to opening and connecting mutually in building a joint future through common cooperation.

 

"The greatest power of the region and Europe lies in its openness and unity, while being shut and divided looms over as their biggest threat. Solely with joint forces we can solve issues such as regional energy networ, joint transport corridors, joint railroad infrastructure, the President stressed.
